Active Call Features

Using your Ply Edge E phone, you can easily handle calls coming in using several different features.

Mute Yourself

If you need to step away from the phone, you can mute your phone's microphone.

  • To mute your microphone while on a call, press the Mute button.
  • To unmute yourself, press the Mute button again.

Hold and Resume a Call

Whenever you need to, you can pause a call by putting the call on hold. While a call is on hold, your caller will hear your organization's music on hold.

  • To hold an active call, press the Hold softkey or the Hold button.
  • To resume a call on hold, press the Resume softkey or press the Hold button again.

Transfer a Call

While you are handling a call, you may find it necessary to send your caller to a different destination.
There are four different ways you can transfer calls to users:

  1. Blind Transferring
  2. Semi-Attended Transferring
  3. Consultative Transferring
  4. Transferring to Voicemail (for internal users)

Perform a Blind Transfer

If you need to transfer call to someone else, you have the option to send the call straight to that other person without speaking to them using a blind transfer.

To perform a blind, or cold, transfer…

  1. Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
  2. Select More → Blind Transfer.
  3. If needed, press More → Consultative to switch back to a consultative transfer.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • Dial the extension or phone number to call and press the Send softkey.
    • Use the Up or Down navigational buttons to hover over a recent caller and press the Send softkey.
    • Press the Directories softkey, select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites), and press Dial softkey.

Perform a Semi-Attended Transfer

When you are performing an attended transfer, you may find that you actually do not need to speak to the person you are transferring to. You can do a semi-attended transfer instead by sending the caller “blindly” to the other party's mailbox or forwarding destination. This can be useful if you realize that person has become unavailable.

To perform a semi-attended transfer…

  1. Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
  3. When you hear the ringback tone, press Transfer to finish the semi-attended transfer.

Perform a Consultative Transfer

If you would like to speak with the person you will be transferring a call to, you can use a consultative transfer.

To perform a consultative, or attended, transfer…

  1. Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
  3. After the contact answers the call, speak with them and then press Transfer to finish the consultative transfer.

Transfer to a User's Voicemailbox

During an active call, you can transfer a caller to another user's voicemailbox. This can be useful when you know that user is out of the office, or if the caller only wants to leave that user a voicemail.

To transfer a call to the voicemailbox of an internal user…

  1. Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
  2. Select More → Blind Transfer.
  3. If needed, press More → Consultative to switch back to a consultative transfer.
  4. Dial the mailbox code for the other user and press Transfer.
    • For Stratus users, dial 03 and the extension number of the user.

For example… If I wanted to transfer a caller to the mailbox of user 101, I would dial 03101.

    • For Enswitch users, dial the feature code associated with the mailbox.

Quick Tip: Most accounts use 1+EXT (e.g., 1103 for dialing extension 103's mailbox) as the code for dialing into the mailboxes of other users.

      Find Your Mailbox's Dialable Code

If you are not sure what your mailbox's feature code is, you can check this and the other feature codes you are set as the Owner for by logging into the ES web portal as a basic user.

To find your mailbox's feature code…

      1. Log into the ES web portal.
      2. Navigate to Features → Feature codes.
      3. Take note of the Feature Code shown that is marked for your extension's Mailbox.

Reference the Feature Codes for Your Users as an Admin

Admins of the ES web portal can check the Feature Codes shown for all of their users using the web portal.

To check the feature codes for the whole account…

      1. Log into the ES web portal.
      2. Navigate to Features → Feature codes.
      3. View and take note of the feature codes for your users.

      4. If needed, click the Export as .csv button to download this list of feature codes as a spreadsheet that you can keep record of and share with your team.

If you do not have access to the ES web portal, feel free to contact our technical support team to learn more about the dialable codes you can use. You can also read this article to learn how you can create a code for dialing a mailbox.

Select Your Default Transfer Type

By default, your phone will perform consultative transfers. If needed, you can configure your phone to perform a Blind Transfer by default.

Switching your default transfer type can be useful when you know that you prefer to transfer one way over another.

To view and set your Default Transfer Type…

  1. Press the Home button.
  2. In the Main Menu, navigate to 10 Settings → 1 Basic → 1 Preferences → 10 Default Transfer Type.
  3. Select either Consultative or Blind.

✔ Now any transfers initiated with the Transfer button and Transfer softkey will start out as the default transfer type you have selected.
When you press the More softkey, the other type of transfer will be shown as an option to switch to.

This applies as well to transfers done using the Directories feature, Recent Calls section of the Dialer, and BLF/speed dial keys.

Conference Calling

Whenever you need to, you can host a conference call using the phone's conferencing features.

Initiate a Conference

You can start a conference call by either…

  • Inviting participants.
  • Merging multiple calls into a conference.

Invite Participants

Another easy way to start a conference call is by inviting one or more members to an active call.

To initiate a conference call in this way…

  1. Place a call to the first party.
  2. After the first party answers the call, press the Conference softkey.
  3. Initiate another call with another person.
  4. When the call is answered, press More → Conference to join the calls.
  5. If needed, press the Conference softkey to add more participants.

Merge Calls

When there are multiple calls, you can merge them into a single conference call.

While you have multiple calls active on your phone, press the Join softkey to merge them into a conference call.

Hold and Resume a Conference Call

If you need to pause a conference call, you can place every participant on hold. While the conference is on hold, other participants will not hear each other until the held conference call is resumed.

  • To hold the conference call, press the Hold softkey or the Hold button.
  • To resume the conference call, press the Resume softkey or press the Hold button again.

Mute and Unmute a Conference

Whenever you need to, you can mute your own microphone to prevent the other participants from hearing you. Muting yourself will still allow other participants to hear each other.

  • To mute your microphone, press the Mute button.
  • To unmute yourself, press the lit-up Mute button again.

Split a Conference

When you are done with a conference call, you can move the callers into their own lines to handle their calls separately.

To split a conference call into separate line, press the Split softkey. From there, you can resume each call and manage their calls from there.

Park a Call

As an alternative to placing a call on hold, you can park a call in a park to allow other users to retrieve the parked call.

To park an active call…

  • Press the park key for a specific park.
  • Dial *** to dynamically park a call in an available park.

Retrieve a Parked Call

To retrieve a parked call…

  • Press a park key that is showing as occupied.
  • Dial the extension number of the call park (701, 702, 703, etc.).

End a Call

At any time during a call, you can end the call with ease.

To end an active call, do one of the following:

  • Press the End Call softkey.
  • Place the handset on the hook/cradle.
  • If you are speaking through the speaker, press the Speakerphone button.
  • If you are using a headset, press the Headset button.
