VoIP Service Compatibility Abroad
For customers planning to use SpectrumVoIP Services outside of the US, Canada, and Mexico, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection will be required to ensure proper access and functionality. This is part of our ongoing security measures to safeguard our customers' accounts and personal information. Restricting access to supported regions reduces the risk of fraudulent activity, such as account takeovers, spoofing, scamming, or unauthorized changes to your account.
How VPNs Work with Our Services
A VPN allows you to securely connect to the internet through a server in a location where our VoIP service is supported, ensuring that your service operates smoothly and without interruption. Without a VPN, you may experience connectivity issues or be unable to make or receive calls while overseas.
Device-Specific VPN Setup
To help you use our VoIP service internationally, the setup process will depend on the type of device you are using:
- StratusHUB or General Softphone (Computer-based VoIP): If you're using a softphone (software-based phone) on your computer, you will need to configure a VPN directly on your computer to ensure that your VoIP service works as expected while overseas. This will allow your computer to connect to our network and bypass any geographical restrictions securely.
- Yealink or other IP Desk Phones: If you're using a Yealink or any other IP desk phone, you will need to connect the phone to a VPN via its web interface. The VPN configuration for Yealink phones can typically be done by accessing the phone’s settings through a web browser and entering the necessary VPN details.
- SpectrumVoIP Mobile App: If you’re using our mobile app for VoIP service, you will need to set up the VPN directly on your smartphone or tablet. This will allow the mobile app to securely connect to our network, ensuring that you can make and receive calls without issues while abroad. VPN configuration on mobile devices can usually be done through the device’s built-in VPN settings or a third-party VPN app.
