Frequently Asked Questions
If I Move My Phone, Will It Lose Its Settings?
The settings for your phone and extension are stored locally on the phone. The phone's configuration will not be reset when unplugged and moved. All extensions and settings will remain the same.
IP phones that have been registered with our server will also be able to re-provision themselves to match what is set through the web platform. Whenever the phone is reconnected to the internet through a network, it will attempt to get in contact with our server and apply any configuration updates.
How Can I Use My Phone Remotely at Home?
Since these Yealink IP phones are computing devices, they require power and a healthy internet connection to send/receive calls and updates.
Read our “How to Set Up a Yealink Phone” article to further explore assembling and connecting a Yealink phone.
It is a good idea to contact the home network's Internet Service Provider (ISP) to notify them that you will be relying on VoIP services in your home. The provider can check the network's health and bandwidth management to ensure the phones will be able to receive a robust, uninterrupted connection. They can also further diagnose and treat any issues identified on the network during their check.
To ensure that the Quality of Service (QoS) is excellent for calls, it may be necessary to re-configure the home's network equipment's (router/modem, firewall, etc.) settings to ensure that SIP traffic (used by the phones) is not being interrupted or altered. You can also request that they try to set up the network equipment to prioritize SIP traffic.
✔ We recommend calling the provider of the network equipment and requesting that they adjust the settings listed in our "Recommended Router and Firewall Settings" guide.
Can I Swap Phones with Another Extension?
Each IP phone has the ability to hold Accounts that has the registration information that is needed to authorize its connection to our Provisioning Server to pull updates. To replace an extension registered to the phone, a tech support agent would replace that information in the phone's Account with the new extension's information.
If you intend to move phones to a new extension, you will need to contact support to re-program the phones to the correct extension.
Can My Phone be Registered to Multiple Accounts?
Each IP Phone has the ability to hold multiple SIP accounts that can be from different domain and providers. Two extensions from the same domain can also share a phone.
If your IP Phone needs an extra extension registered to it and an extra line appearance key added for that extension, contact our technical support team by calling (469) 429-2500 or emailing support@spectrumvoip.com.
✔ A technical support specialist can register your desk phone to the extra account, explain how to switch accounts on the phone, and add in a line appearance key for making calls with that second extension's information.
